Motherhood & Words

blog book tour and book giveaway

A huge thank you to The Loft Literary Center and to everyone who came down to the launch last night. It was amazing to be surrounded by so much support! Thank you, also, to Magers and Quinn Booksellers for being there to sell Use Your Words. They sold out of the 80 copies they brought! Whoop! And the readers, Anne Greenwood Brown, Lucinda Cummings, and Sara Martin, were fabulous. Thank you, ladies!

Today I will be reading at 7 p.m. at Micawber’s in St. Paul. I am also the featured writer mama on Christina Katz’s The Prosperous Writer. Please leave a comment (answering her question), and you’ll be entered into the drawing for a copy of Use Your Words.

Now for the blog book tour…I’m honored to have Literary Mama kick off the virtual tour for Use Your Words. I discovered Literary Mama years ago, and always found inspiration in the powerful essays and poems published there. Then at AWP in 2009, I met a group of amazing women, all of them Literary Mama editors and contributors. Caroline Grant, the editor-in-chief, is especially inspiring. I don’t know how she does everything that she does.

Soon after meeting these extraordinary women, I started to write profiles and reviews for them, and then I became an editor myself. It’s one of the most gratifying things that I do. Thank you to everyone at Literary Mama! And thank you for kicking off the Use Your Words blog book tour!!

You’ll be hearing from me a lot this month, so buckle down and help me celebrate mothers who write!

I have been teaching creative writing for almost twenty years. Reading about other women’s lives and experiences has expanded my world. To be able to walk in someone else’s shoes, whether it’s for a moment or an hour or a few days, is an incredible gift, providing me with insight into the human experience. It takes courage to write your truths, especially if it doesn’t seem as though anyone cares, as though anyone is listening. Let me tell you: your stories matter, I’m listening, and I’m here to help you find the heart of those truths, to get them down on the page, to craft them, and to send them out into the world. Together, we will change the world, one story at a time.

I’m hoping to win your book, not because I’m cheap, but because then I’ll be able to give a copy to a friend! Congrats again — hope to see you soon.

Kate, it was so great to meet you on Thursday night. I just had to blog about your wonderful book, and finding out that you lived in my home.

Continued success on the book tour, I can’t wait to dive into my copy!

      Dear Kristi,

It was SO wonderful to meet you, and to realize we are connected through your wonderful (and our former) house! Thank you for helping me celebrate the launch of Use Your Words! I look forward to being in touch (and my mom is SO excited to have coffee with you)!

Kate, I read your book after getting a copy from Amazon Vine and WOW! I’m going to be reviewing it briefly on my blog (SnoringScholar.com) this Wednesday and I’ll probably be writing about it in a few of the other places I write as well. Thanks so much for such a wonderful resource and for your encouragement of mother writers! I know I’ll be sharing it and rereading it many times.

It was also a joy to find your blog and your other work as well!

(And now I’ll stop writing with so many exclamation points!)

      Dear Sarah,

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m thrilled that you love the book! (And I’m sorry, but I cannot help but use exclamation points these day!) I look forward to reading your blog and getting to know you!

      Warmly,
      Kate
