Motherhood & Words

day 12: the princess and the pump

Thank you so much to Hallie of The Princess and the Pump for hosting day 12 of the Use Your Words virtual book tour. Hallie started writing again after many years of not writing when her beautiful daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes mainly in childhood but can happen at any age.  There is NO CURE.  People with Type 1 must inject insulin in order to survive, which means constant finger pricks and needles.  It means counting every carbohydrate that goes into her daughter’s body. It’s been a roller coaster for Hallie and her family, and writing has kept her sane. Please read more about why Hallie writes here.

Thank you, Hallie, for being a part of the tour and for sharing your important story with the world!

I have been teaching creative writing for almost twenty years. Reading about other women’s lives and experiences has expanded my world. To be able to walk in someone else’s shoes, whether it’s for a moment or an hour or a few days, is an incredible gift, providing me with insight into the human experience. It takes courage to write your truths, especially if it doesn’t seem as though anyone cares, as though anyone is listening. Let me tell you: your stories matter, I’m listening, and I’m here to help you find the heart of those truths, to get them down on the page, to craft them, and to send them out into the world. Together, we will change the world, one story at a time.
