Motherhood & Words

portland

We’ve been relaxing in Portland these last few days, catching up with old friends and tooling around town. It’s been such a wonderful trip so far, but I can tell that we are all feeling the pull back to Minnesota. Stella, especially, is missing her cousins.

But book stuff is continuing to go really well. I was happy to be a guest this morning on Am Northwest, talking about blogging/writing. A huge thank you to Helen and Dave for hosting me. You can watch the segment here.

Tonight I’m excited to read at Powell’s in Beaverton. Join me at 7 if you can.

And then tomorrow we are off to Seattle, and I’m looking forward to spending time with my friend Bonnie and her family and my cousins.

I have been teaching creative writing for almost twenty years. Reading about other women’s lives and experiences has expanded my world. To be able to walk in someone else’s shoes, whether it’s for a moment or an hour or a few days, is an incredible gift, providing me with insight into the human experience. It takes courage to write your truths, especially if it doesn’t seem as though anyone cares, as though anyone is listening. Let me tell you: your stories matter, I’m listening, and I’m here to help you find the heart of those truths, to get them down on the page, to craft them, and to send them out into the world. Together, we will change the world, one story at a time.
