I have been teaching creative writing for almost twenty years. Reading about other women’s lives and experiences has expanded my world. To be able to walk in someone else’s shoes, whether it’s for a moment or an hour or a few days, is an incredible gift, providing me with insight into the human experience. It takes courage to write your truths, especially if it doesn’t seem as though anyone cares, as though anyone is listening. Let me tell you: your stories matter, I’m listening, and I’m here to help you find the heart of those truths, to get them down on the page, to craft them, and to send them out into the world. Together, we will change the world, one story at a time.

Oh, Kate! How wonderful for you! Your book is like magic. I still carry it around with me everywhere I go to write, from room to room in the house, and I keep it tucked into my purse, laptop bag, and even on the front seat of the van. Sometimes in re-reading it’s like visiting an old friend, but at other times, I am struck by your words like it’s the first time I’m encountering them. It’s amazing to me, but it’s true. I love this book.

Your interview was wonderful and I particularly loved this line: “A wonderful thing about writing your life is that the more you write, the more you remember.” I’m working my way through my story and what I wrote about two nights ago was a complete surprise. But now that I’ve had a couple of days to think about the words that came to me that night, it makes sense and actually fits perfectly within the story.

I’m finally at the point where if I haven’t written in two days I start to go a little crazy! Thanks for all the inspiration! 🙂

Oh Autumn, thank you for these words! You just made my day.

And I’m so glad you’re finding the time and space to dive more deeply into your story. You know you’re a writer when you can’t let two days go by without putting words on the page!

Thank you, my dear. I don’t think I’m the inspiration, but I love that the timing coincides!

I’m so late to this celebratory “whoop” — but here I am! The essay, It’s Relative, took my breath away. I was right there with you, and when Stella’s fingers closed around yours… wow. I can’t wait for your memoir.
